After taking £10 from my account without purchase, I decided to call paypal. Biggest mistake of my life. Their call centre was operated by constant questions from a machine. At the end of the day, my problem was not solved. Had to pay £16 for a service that did not solve my problem, even more than the amount that was taken out of my account. This is a scam. SINCE i have had quite a few encounters with paypal unwillingly, most of them turned out to be ripoffs.
the security thing is all a big lie and only for advertisement.
i have been ripped off on ebay several time under the joke of so called buyer protection!!
under my recent ripoff paypal said they would only refund my money if the item i got was significantly damaged.
ie broken in pieces.

DONT USE THIS SERVICE my boyfriend used paypal to sell a product. the woman who purchased it filed a dispute 2 WHOLE MONTHS after saying she had been a victim of credit card fraud. this is a horrible thing to be a victim of HOWEVER my boyfriend has had to fork out the money!! and he may never see that money or the phone ever again! plus why hasnt she picked up on that sooner??? surely 2 weeks is enough to know let alone 2 months!!! MASSIVE SCAM and now my boyfriend in £500 less off!!! this is a disgrace!!!! why should he pay for her misfortune?? i want everyone to know DONT USE PAYPAL and trust me this is only the beginning of my rant ....

Sellers - stay away from PayPal

I sold a phone screen by ebay. buyer received the phone checked it and left good feedback. next a week later they claimed that the phone had a cracked digitizer, raised it with ebay who immediately took the money they paid me for the phone out of my paypal account and gave it back to them - no questions asked!!

The digitizer was not damaged before sending out, i have photos to prove this. Although ebay didn't want to know.

I have since read that if the whatever the customer claims, PayPal will believe and wont ask questions. They will take the money from your account and give it back to the customer, often with the customer keeping the item too!

Paypal has a new "trick." Paid for something via my mobile phone today and guess what... for NO reason, and with NO consent or instruction on my part - my payment was converted to an "E-check" which means my 242 dollars just floats in a Paypal investment account for about a week while they collect interest on it against my consent. Effing rip-off scum bag bastards.

Buy something from Everbuying.com and Paypal collects your money. Everbuying.com is a Chinese company that ships substandard products, backed by a long list of "guaranteed" false claims. I am shocked by the fact that not only did I spend my own cash money to place in the hands of this organization but I even paid for the useless piece of plastic! The only reason I purchase cards like this is because of identity theft in the past. These people would not acctivate my card unless I provided them with a hard copy,by mail, of my drivers license as well as social security card. Then I had to pay the postage to sign a form to keep them from sharing the very information that they could not verify to be true? Why would anyone request a person send them personal info for their own money? I have been trying to make a money transfer of $5000 for 2 weeks now, my account has been limited twice and when I finally transferred the funds to my bank account pay pal reversed the check. I have now been on the phone with customer service 3 times and 2 times the people did not know what they were talking about. First person I spoke to told me my client did not need to create a paypal account to send me money no matter what the amount was... I have now spent so many hours trying to process this damn money transfer it does not make any sense. They say they charge 2.9% +$0.30 but they charged me 3.08% +0.30 minor difference but when it comes to money I want EXACT NUMBERS

These people are hardcore theives

These people block payments for 30 days and try to earn money from the interest they get by keeping the money in their account in addition to the 4% commission that they charge on each transaction.
I worked for a customer for a month providing him with seo and web development services and after a month of back breaking hard work, when customer is satisfied and he wants to pay for the service that he has received, he asks me to send and invoice and he gladly pays as he is happy with the work. But now instead of being satisfied with the $40 that you are getting out of the $1000 that the customer has sent you want more. So you block the hard earned money that i was waiting for at the end of a long one month ordeal of providing services to my customer and making him happy. So that you can earn more interest out of it by keeping it with you for next 30 days. And when i contact you and tell you that we have already provided the service to the customer that he is paying for you give totally lame reasons like
" We are trying to safeguard the interest of the customer , the goods /items have not been delivered yet "
When the goods/services have already been delivered and then payment is made what is the point behind giving such excuses?

****PAYPAL FRAUD ALERT ****

Do not use Paypal if your business is service oriented. Because you are not dealing with tangible goods you can get scammed so easy. Paypal will not protect you if you are not dealing with an actual product and cannot provide proof of delivery. As a service based company, I have had 4 charge back claims in a year all due to Paypals lack of security and checking who's credit cards are being used. Here is how the scam works. I send an invoice for a service that I provide to an individual who hires me. They even have an confirmed Paypal account. This person then uses a friends credit card to pay for my transaction. I receive the payment showing that it came from the person that I billed it to however, I have no way of knowing which credit card was used. Now the friend who's credit card was used, calls their credit company and says they never authorized it. Paypal immediately reverses the charges because the credit card did not match the invoices name and address. Meanwhile they were the ones who accepted it!! When I called them they told me that there is nothing they can do about it and because it is a service...TOO BAD. I asked them why they did not check to make sure the name and addess matched the credit card and was told that they just don't. Here is the best, I was told by the Paypal customer service agent that perhaps I should stop accepting credit cards because they could not protect me. I should find another service provider who can!! Imagine that.
I am currently dealing with a charge back from a person who did hire me and did use his own credit card but is disputing it because he did not receive the goods. His name is Humaid Sharif. Hired me 3 times and he has disputed all 3. Unfortunately I find out 4 month later so I could not stop providing the service to him. He is telling Paypal that he did not receive his goods so he is disputing it. How do you receive delivery on a service? You can't therefore he can easily dispute it. I forwarded to Paypal a copy of the invoice and power of attorney he signed hiring me and authorizing me to perform the service. I am waiting to see how they rule on this one. I will update this and let everyone know.
One of my charge backs was over $1,000.00 which hurts a small business like me.
Please do not use Paypal if you are a small business that provides a service. You too will get scammed. It is better to go with a credit card company where you can actually receive the credit card number and key in the name and address yourself so you can make sure a fraudulent card is not being used. On top of all that, they charge a ridiculous charge back on their own error. You would think a big company like that would make sure the name and address on the credit card actually matches the account holder.

Held My Business Hostage! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE***

The company I work for needed to get some things through PayPal and I attached their bank account and credit card to my account so they could take care of some things. The VERY NEXT DAY my account was limited. They immediately associated my account with a PayPal account I had 2 years ago with a negative balance. Because of this, the business is now UNABLE to have their own PayPal account because their bank and card is attached to mine.

After speaking with Liz who's PayPal Badge Number is 182899 she told me in a recorded conversation that there is NO-ONE at PayPal who would be willing to take action and remove the business information so they can have their own account. EVEN THOUGH their information was on my personal account. They would not let them take their own bank account and credit card off my account.

In Short, PayPal limited an account after it had been opened for over a year immediately after this business had their information attached to the account. They immediately found a reason to go after a person by taking advantage of a company. They could have limited this account any time within a 12 month period but they suddenly choose to limit it today? Needless to say, I paid my balance and removed the limitation but only because the company needed to have their bank and card back so they could create their own PayPal account.

PayPal uses other people's money to their advantage, they can limit accounts on the fly, and they do what they want with their users. PayPal is an UNSAFE system for the Business Owner to utilize in the terms of they have Full Control, you do not*

Unfortunately their are not that many alternatives to PayPal on the market today which PayPal uses to their advantage. They make interest on their account balances and they make a lot of money. It's like they're greedy enough to make others suffer. Bravo right, I say this is a poor business practice and the company needs to think about the way they do business with their users. I also think eBay needs to think about using another alternative to PayPal.

It's up to you what you want to use, but frankly I'd rather work with a company that works with me like Payza, Escrow.com, and Moneybookers or Skrill. The fact that I take the time to review this experience should be enough for you to not use their selfish and greedy service.

I was also told by Liz that I could get a copy of the call since "they record all their calls". Once I got to the right department, they said I needed to call their Legal number at 408-967-9915 and I'd have to subpoena to get the call. My guess is they will destroy the evidence now and say no such call happened. God the whole company upsets me and what's hard is you can't get mad at their reps, they are just doing their job which the beast has trained them to do.

Avoid - If possible

If you've never enjoyed spending hours on hold, or disputing a questionable charge, try to avoid these people. You probably don't like people who are always 'right' at your expense and you won't enjoy your experience here if there is the slightest disagreement. Their customer support does not include merchant's telephone numbers. (If you've got a statement with a charge that you don't recognize, you cannot call that merchant directly from your statement, you must call Pay Pal, then the odds are good that you'll receive another Pay Pal telephone number and not the number of the merchant you need to contact). Situation is especially bad if you've have bought into a program with charges like subscriptions, very difficult to cancel.

Just try and dispute a scam

I've just got off the phone with Paypal. Total time, on the phone? 1 Hour 32 Minutes and 19 seconds. And absolutely nothing to show for it but a resolution to never use their service again.

I just wanted to know if it was possible to dispute a claim that was brought against me. I did not think it would take very long, so I used my cell phone, which has limited minutes.

I was passed and passed between employees, with HUGE wait times in between. Note: paypal's does not give you any sort of estimate about how long the wait time is, as most systems do these days. And they certainly don't give you the option of getting a call-back.

Each new employee knew nothing about me or my question. Each time I had to repeat it, over and over.

The basic story is this: I used to sell the occasional item through Ebay. Once Ebay was trying out a new set-up for listing a selling, and I missed the "only ship nationally" option. My item was bought by a person in China. I shipped it and obtained a USPS tracking number. I thought that was safe.

The chinese person then claimed to have never have received the item. I called paypal with my tracking #, thinking I was good. I was informed it was not an acceptable tracking method. They refunded the chinese person's money, from my account. My account was $22 short, (about 25% of the total amount.) At this point, I have been robbed. I refuse to pay it.

I google around. This is a common scam. Internationals learn that paypal doesn't accept USPS tracking #s and use this to scam US sellers.

And paypal refuses to forgive the $22. Worse, they keep me on the phone for hours and hours (this wasn't my first call), dangling hope, transferring me from rep to rep, that they MIGHT forgive the $22. And they, after all that time, they don't.

I don't think I've ever dealt with a worse company.

Buyer Protection WHAT A DISCRASE

Bought exhaust that was supposed to fit on my car, now cost me 2000 US modififying the exhaust never fit to my car, got the old removed is destroyed would cost me the same putting the old back, now payapl claim me to sent back the old exhaust to seller in org condition hahaha... Overall very good, but a recent issues

I recently added 2 credit cards and the address update to my account. However, when I went to pay with the new added CC, I was declined not once but 3 times from the 1 card I chose to use. So, I went back into the account and thought I had fixed the problem and processed the transaction again. Transaction read successful and everything seemed to be fine. I went back and looked at the detailed transaction, (I highly recommend everyone does this) and noticed the monies was transferred out of my Bank Account instead of the CC I choose. Minutes later I called Paypal and come to find out the CC again declined the transaction. I clearly said to rep that I had not choose my bank account, and she said, "if a CC does not go through we default to your main source of payment, which in your case, is your BANK ACCOUNT.
Now, the transaction is okay, but I do not agree with particular type of business. If I clearly ask to use a particular CC and it is declined because of an address error or any other reason, then I should be notified or given the option of another payment type myself. In my opinion, ebay/paypal had no right to default a payment!!!!!!!!!
If ebay/payal wants their customers to fully know what's going on regarding payment policies, I suggest when adding the CC they clearly state that little bit of info.
If ebay/paypal does not chose to be part of the transparency act, then I have no other option but to delete my paypal account.

Paypal Buyer Protection is SCAM!

I bought a new computer or so I thought. In part because they accepted Paypal, so I believed I was protected.

The computer was BROKEN, and NOT AS ORDERED. Seller disputes neither of these facts.

I filed a claim after weeks of trying to resolve with the seller. Paypal never contacted me.

The claim was "resolved in my favor" but I was only refunded $1000 of the $1430 purchase price.

Now Paypal is non-responsive.

So if you buy a broken ANYTHING, count on losing money. Paypal's guarantee is a bald faced lie.

I used to sell giftcards on eBay. One person reported they did not receive their item and opened a dispute. After the dispute was settled, it turned out the person DID receive the item, but because they don't "cover gift cards" or have "seller protection", they expected ME to pay for an item that somebody DID RECEIVE ----- So I should just go on ebay and buy a bunch of gift cards and report that I didn't receive it to get them for free.... Why not?! It's PayPal's policy!!!!

I had my paypal account used to purchase thousands of dollars of cell phones. I tried to get the money back. I proved it was not me that purchased the goods. I pushed paypal to refund my money and they refused. they said it would take 2 weeks to a month. when i pushed them for action they contacted my employer and requested they fire me or the company I worked for would lose their paypal account. I was fired after 16 years due to this. Paypal ruined my life and retirement to teach me a lesson. Dont mess with paypal. dont do business with these heartless souls.

Paypal still has good people in their Organisation

I have had an issue with our paypal account for the last 1 month and several limitations were imposed. These limitations were unreasonable and unjustifiable. In the End I had to take this matter to Senior Management at Paypal head Office who took swift action and resolved it instantly. I think Paypal needs to work more closely with their merchants in order to have a more fruitful relationship. They also need to go through a rigorous campaign to clearly understand their merchants financial standing.

Watch your accounts!

I had purchased ads from Facebook which was paid for through PayPal. I had my debit card set as primary payment but they paid through bank account information instead. I used this account just as a temporary holding and has a constant balance of $0.00. much to my surprise, I receive an NSF fee because PayPal didn't use my preferred payment method. I contacted support who explained a "back door" setting as I like to call it because you have to look for it, that made that payment go through account info rather than preferred. I changed the "back door" setting to use my card. Sure enough, I receive ANOTHER NSF fee because PayPal used the account rather than the card again, even after I changed the setting.

It's been a year or 2 that i'm using paypal, and I was never disappointed.
Here are some of the best aspects of paypal:

- you can pay without leaving your credit card numbers, etc...
- fastest way paying something bought on the internet (from my point of view in Europe)
- really easy to use
- reliable
- good contact with help center
- A real buyer protection (I've experimented this trust me It works fine)

For all of these reasons, I can attest (from my point of view) that paypal is a really god company.

Constant spam. fake paypal emails.

I'm always getting emails from PayPal from spammers saying I purchased items and that I owe money daily. I never purchase anything anymore online and I'm so close to deleting my PayPal account. For that reason. It says to view this website as the description to pay ( $0.01). Just to advertise thier spam website. I contacted paypal and they did not see it as a big deal! Told me to just cancel it.. They allow hackers and spammers onto thier site, it is a big deal! These spammers also send me fake PayPal emails 7 times a day saying this transaction was cancelled and IT WAS NOT!!!

I've been using paypal for my purchases for couple of years without any problems.
Early this year I came across the first seller (provider of services) who didn't deliver the service as promised. After useless email exchange with them I escalated the claim to paypal with an impression that it will be only a matter of time until I get reimbursed for the crappy service I received for my money. I was very disappointed then, when I received only a short notice that my claim was denied, without any further explanation or a chance for me to prove my point.
Therefore from now on I will only give my business to merchants who offer payment services other than paypal as I do not want any fraction of my purchases to go to this company ever again.
And it goes without saying that I will discourage everyone I know to use paypal as well.

DO NO SELL WITH PAYPAL + Horrifically bad customer service.

While the actual service works well enough at times if you're buying, if you plan on selling a product and collect payment through Paypal, DON'T. You will more than likely encounter a situation where they will hold onto the money and you'll have to go through the biggest hassle to even attempt to get it back. And trust me, no one wants to go through the hassle that is Paypal customer service.

Fact is, the customer service is horrendous. The call-in number is practically fully auto-mated and if your solution isn't among those pre-scripted, it will often go through a loop and you'll get no answers. You won't even get transferred to a live representative a lot of times. When you do, they''ll tell you that there's nothing they can do. Thats on top of the fact that emailing them gets you nowhere as well.

I recommend all boycott Paypal. Maybe they'll learn not to treat their customer base like SH*T otherwise.

What is customer service..we have not heard of this expression!

As a buyer you are told you get this amazing 'buyer protection'. Well you better read the small print sucker!!!! You see apparently this is only valid on thursday evenings between 9 and 10pm, oh yea, and during a lunar eclipse.....

To give you an example i bought an item which was faulty, returned it but got no refund from the seller. According to Paypal (and this is word for word) ' because the address the seller gave you isn't the same as the address on their Paypal account we can't help you'. Silly me huh! Thankfully I used my Barclaycard so I was able to chargeback Paypal. I felt a bit bad going behind their back an all but they did waste 2 weeks of my time just to tell me how their super dooper buyer protection didnt apply to me. Ok back to serious talk below.

If you are reading this and do not enjoy stress I suggest you do not use Paypal. In reality Paypal did stress me out for 2 weeks and were actually rude and abrupt on the phone. If you use Ebay to buy things then try Amazon instead - their customer service is truly excellent - even though you might pay 5% more for an item you'll thank yourself if something goes wrong. No arguing with paypal's laughable 'customer service' team. I could have lost over £300...don't let yourself get caught out by these rogues!

Beware of Paypal's unfair business practices. They will hold on to your money as long as possible while they earn interest on the money. Their motive is not protecting your money. Their motive is taking as much of your money as possible. As a subsidiary of EBAY, they are getting you every way possible. EBAY charges a fee for selling goods and then you are forced to use Paypal as your "preferred" payment provider and they take a cut. Good luck with making a profit when they eat your revenue in big chunks. snake oil salesmen. Caveat emptor!

Paypal... PIC for scammers

I wish there was an option of giving it negative stars. I was big time admirer and user of Paypal until today. I bought a script from www.guruscript.com site. They sold me half baked script which never ran. They had free install offer too. They could not install my script and I was forced to file dispute with Paypal.. After a month of keeping my case open Paypal closed it simply by saying we cannot refund as it is intangible object. They have the case number with the vendor and they did not even bother to look into that to investigate. Now, this open a big door for scammers, sell anything which is intangible and once anyone paid via Paypal, the scammers will get their money no matter you get your promised item or not. Unfortunately, I have paid using Paypal's Bill me later service so I don't even have choice to claim from credit card. I am done with Paypal today, posting this review just in case it could save someone from being robbed.

Charges are ridiculous, money held (pretending to be protection when they have direct debit to my account!!!) and customer service is another rip off with premium number to call them. Awful service, money hungry and they will harrass you to no end

I've had the unfortunate chance to use this service for one purchase through EBay. Turns out to be the costliest mistake of my life as a 15 dollar purchase turned into a 150 dollar ordeal. I didn't realize they would enact a 35 dollar monthly fee for every month. I just wanted to use it once and be done with. They do not make it very clear at all and I get a letter three months down the road charging me 103 dollars. Rediculous. And on top of that you get their calling service harrass you to no extent, calling in upwards of 10 times in 5 hours. If i were to pick up no one would be on the other end. All in All, it turns out to be one of the worst companies to deal with as all they care about is taking your money. DO NOT USE.

Worse company ever, scammer friendly.

1. They take crazy fees $2 of 50$ transaction.
2. They don't care about you if you are being scammed, and they know that you are being scammed.
3. they open a savings account for you without the savings and you cannot touch 10-20% of your money
and the interest is not shared with you, basically to raise their stock share.
4. Easily hackable, i have been receiving around 2000 transactions within one year from hacked PayPal accounts.
5. They make money while taking a ride on your business and when you're in trouble they don't give a shi*t
6. Their support staff have a tendency to agree with my angry calls to them.
they just comply with my frustration.
7. Don't even think to use this so called "company" unless you must to.
they will turn away on every one of your complains and at any chance they will ignore their useless system that suppose to protect you.

Felt like being scammed.

So around 20 days after shipping out two games I sold on ebay, I still am unable to receive my money. Im afraid that I just basically spent money to give my games away. I would never use paypal again.

They are a Company that needs to listen and take note of what people say and change their ways

Looking at all the reviews concerning Paypal, they should start to listen what people say.

My story is a bit long but I will try and keep it as short as possible.

I run a company and gave my partner some stock to sell to clear a debt between us and for her to make abit of extra money. All was going well on Ebay until these uneducated, unhelp and unprofessional people decided that she was a business and not an individual, so they requested all sorts of paperwork asking her where the goods had come from and did she have the right to sell them on Ebay. What where they implying?

Paperwork was submitted proving that she was an individual and I even sent them paperwork proving that I had given her the items with clear title, but that was not good enough.

Now her Paypal Account has been limited and she has to wait 180 Days for her money back, who keeps the interest, they do! Sadly she has now got to deal with some buyers raising cases and getting her money cleared because they have not received their items, a joke because they were sent by courier and tracked, instead of talking to the buyer and get the case closed YOU have to ask Paypal to resolve it and that is a pain.

These people need to be regulated like our UK banks and not just make decisions at the drop of a hat. Their customer service departments are rude and unwilling to deal with your dispute, same with Ebay as well, they like to tell you many a different tale.

Maybe it needs people to vote with their feet and if necessary take the action required to make them sit up and listen. I am sure the FSA would be interested in their attitude!

I am sure that many more sellers / buyers will have bad experiences with Paypal, they are a law to themselves. If you can use another cheaper payment gateway and avoid these crooks, then do so, at least they are regulated profesional bodies.
